AILET 2025 Eligibility Criteria: Basic Requirements

Candidates applying for undergraduate or postgraduate courses, need to fulfil the common eligibility criteria for the AILET exam as under: 

  1. Candidates must have minimum marks and marks in the subjects.
  2. If applicants are applying under a reserved category, they must have a certificate issued by the competent authority.
  3. If candidates belong to the PwD category, a medical certificate issued by the health authority stating 40% or more disability under the PwD category should be available.

AILET Eligibility Criteria 2025 for BA LLB course

The eligibility criteria for the AILET BA LLB course as mentioned by NLU Delhi is, “Senior Secondary School Examination (10+2 system) or an equivalent examination with 45% marks (40% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities). Candidates appearing for the 12th standard annual examination in 2024 are eligible to apply.”, this means, 

  1. Candidates must have passed the 12th class examination or equivalent examination from State Board / Board of Education - ICSE/ CBSE/ CISCE
  2. Candidates must have secured 45% marks in total in the class 12th exam if belonging to the General or OBC. Categories
  3. SC, ST or PwD categories can claim a 5% discount on the minimum required marks for producing documents eligible for qualification. If they score 40% or more, they will be admitted to AILET 2025.
  4. There is no relaxation of minimum marks for candidates belonging to categories other than SC, ST and PwD.

If the candidates are appearing for the class 12 exam at the time of filling out the AILET 2025 application form, they can mention and say that they are waiting for the result. Their grade will be determined during the counselling and presentation of the 12th-grade exam papers

AILET Eligibility for Foreign Nationals

Applicants who are not US citizens or have OCI/PIO status must apply online using the same website. In the next section, you will find the qualifications for foreign candidates to apply for AILET.

  1. To apply for AILET in the category of foreigners in 2024-2025 –
  2. To apply, students must score 65% in the Secondary School Examination (10+2 ), or a similar test.
  3. To be admitted, foreigners are not required to pass the entrance exam. Other eligibility criteria for admission are the same as other candidates and there is no difference.
  4. Applicants who meet the OCI/PIO requirements are eligible to apply under the Overseas National Category or the Indian Student Category, depending on their country.
  5. Candidates applying under the Indian national category who are citizens or permanent residents of any other country or territory must attend AILET with other students.


AILET BA LLB Eligibility Criteria 2025 for Exemption

Only candidates belonging to the OCI/PIO/Foreigner category are exempted from AILET if they secure 65% marks in class 12th or equivalent examination. In addition to this, no AILET 2025 candidate will be ineligible for admission to a law course offered at the University of Law.

  1. Candidates should have completed Class (10+2). 
  2. Candidates appearing in Class 12 can also apply for the AILET 2025 BCom LLB exam. They will need to submit a copy of their final mark sheet for AILET 2025 counselling. 

Minimum Marks

  1. General/OBC category candidates need a minimum of 45% to apply for AILET 2025. 
  2. The minimum qualifying mark for SC/ST and PwD category candidates is 40%. 

Age Limit

  1. NLU has not specified an age limit to apply for the AILET BCom LLB exam.

Candidates with "LL.B. degree OR law degree equivalent to 50% marks (45% for SC / ST/persons with disabilities). Candidates of final year LL.B. Examination-a -year in 2024 can be applied again, meaning:

  1. Applicants must have a three-year or five-year LLB degree or equivalent law degree from a recognized university.
  2. Minimum 50% marks in general examination
  3. SC/ST/PwD category candidates who have secured 5% marks or 45% marks in the qualifying examination

Those appearing in AILET 2025 for admission to PhD in Law at NLU Delhi must fulfil the admission criteria:

"LL.M or equivalent law degree with 55% marks (50% for the SC / ST / Persons with Disabilities)", meaning:

  1. Applicants must have an LLM degree or equivalent from an accredited university.
  2. To get admission for AILET 2025 55% marks in the general examination of an LLM degree
  3. SC/ST/PwD category subjects must get 50% marks in the qualification
