Originally founded in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work in Mumbai, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established with a mission to nurture professionals in human services, tackling the profound issues of unemployment and poverty sparked by the Great Depression.
